Custom Finishes

Each of the following steps requires meticulous care, but with our professional expertise, the results are beautiful.

Step One: Sand

We sand new raw floors and sand existing floors in need of a refresh. To do this we use progressively finer grit sandpaper to remove the existing finish or surface imperfections of raw wood. It takes a fair amount of equipment, time, and experience to do a quality sanding job.

You may see flooring companies offer "dust-free sanding". Unfortunately, that is unrealistic. No matter how much we try, we cannot eliminate 100% of the dust created during the sanding process.

However here are several things we do to eliminate as much dust as possible:

• We use machines that have a dust collection system attached

• We tape off areas requiring protection

• We thoroughly vacuum the affected area

Step Two: Stain

Staining is how we achieve the color you desire for your floor. This can be a difficult choice, but we can help you decide. We use large stain samples and put them directly on your floor. This way you can compare colors in the natural light of your house and create the best option for you.

We use both oil stains and penetrating oils. Both are available in a variety of colors and can be customized.

Oil Stains

When most people think of staining their floor, they have a classic oil-based product in mind.  This has been the industry standard for years and produces a consistent quality finish. We use oil stains regularly and they produce amazing results.

Penetrating Oil Stains

Penetrating oils are quickly becoming a popular alternative to traditional stains. The penetrating oils we use are environmentally friendly. It’s made from vegetable oils making the application odor much less offensive. Penetrating oils are also easier to touch-up down the road. If you have a particularly active household and are worried about scratches and dents, this could be an option for you.

Step Three: Finish

Finishing is the last step of your floor installation because it’s the protective layer on your floor.  We use high-quality products and always apply three coats of finish.

As with every other step of your floor you get to pick what type of finish you would like. After listening to what your goals are for your floor, we can recommend the product best for you.

We offer premium quality water-based and oil finishes with environmentally friendly options.
